30th anniversary hunger history

Celebrating 30 Years of Filling Tables and Improving Lives

Where it All Started

In 1982, the North Texas Food Bank was created to address the severe hunger problem in our community. At that time, 333,000 meals were provided in one year to individuals who were food insecure, meaning they were unsure where their next nutritious meal would come from. In our 30th year, we provided 47 million nutritious meals.

What We’ve Accomplished
Since 1982, we’ve seen many victories in the fight against hunger thanks to the support of volunteers, donors, companies, organizations, families, students, parents and individuals, all standing behind one mission: To passionately pursue a hunger free community.

ReThink Hunger: Our Three-Year Strategy
Today, the hunger problem in North Texas has grown and become far more complex. To face this issue head-on, we need to ReThink Hunger. We’re providing healthier food, developing new ways to extend our reach, offering more ways to volunteer and improving the lives of those we serve.

The Celebration
In 2012, we celebrated the successes of our past and the challenges of our future with the community that shaped who we are. Many community members joined the celebration by making a special anniversary gift. These gifts were honored in a wall mural at our Cockrell Hill campus called The Founders' Tribute

Thanks to all of those who joined us in celebrating 30 years!
