Peanut butter is an essential item at the Food Bank. It's a kid-friendly source of protein that has a long shelf life, meets most religious restrictions on food and doesn't require special storage or cooking.
Unfortunately, we have been hit hard by rising prices. In fact, current pricing is 66% higher than the early part of this year for the same jar of peanut butter; now costing $3 to $4 a jar at grocery stores. These higher prices have also led to less peanut butter and other foods being available through U.S. Department of Agriculture commodity programs.
