BIG FISH PACK AND SORT FOR THOSE IN NEED AND UNVEIL A WHALE OF A SURPRISE

Dallas, Texas (March 30, 2010) . . . Serving food to thousands of customers a day is routine for Long John Silver’s executives, but Tuesday, March 30th was a little different. That day, LJS “big fish” were on site at the North Texas Food Bank packing and sorting food bank supplies for local families in need.

“Putting our food service skills to use in a Day of Service for the Community is just one way we aim to give back," stated Jim Bodenstedt, President & CEO for the Long John Silver’s franchise group, MUY Brands, LLC. The special Day of Service highlights a month-long partnership between Long John Silver’s, Sesame Street Live, North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

A surprise gift of over $20,000 to both food banks accompanied the executive work day.

Since January, Dallas area Long John Silver’s restaurants have been raising funds by offering a Sesame Street Live coloring and activity book for every $1 donation, with all proceeds benefiting the two local food banks.

“Feeding America’s recent Hunger in America 2010 study showed that NTFB feeds 63,000 people every week—that’s up 80 percent from four years ago,” said Jan Pruitt, president and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “So there is really no way we can thank the ‘big fish’ behind MUY Brands enough for their campaign reminding us that hunger, which effects 1 in 5 children throughout Texas, is year-round.”
