RUN ON! ANNOUNCES NEW LOCATION FOR DASH DOWN GREENVILLE
Central Market’s Lovers Lane location to serve as the “Host Sponsor” of annual race and St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
DALLAS (Jan. 28, 2009) – The Dash Down Greenville Avenue announced today that the location of the annual 5K run and St. Patrick’s Day celebration has moved to the parking lot of Central Market’s Lovers Lane location. The annual 5K race serves as a fundraiser for the North Texas Food Bank and 2009 marks the 13th run for the green jacket.
“We are very excited about the new location and partnership with Central Market,” commented Bob Wallace, owner of Run On!. “The Central Market parking lot is much larger than what we had in the past and will allow us to make the post race festivities even more exciting. Plus this race has grown so much over the past few years that we need the additional space to accommodate the runners and increased number of sponsors.”
The Lovers Lane Central Market will be hosting free social runs at 6:00 PM on Wednesday evening’s beginning with a kick off party on Wednesday, February 4th through Wednesday, March 11th. The social runs will be lead by Run On! training coaches and the Central Market Café will be providing post run refreshments.
“Central Market Dallas is thrilled to be the starting location for Dash Down Greenville this year,” said Steve Tarantino, General Manager. “Passionate people uniting in celebration and giving back to the North Texas Food Bank is about as close as you can get to our core values. We’re ready to kick-off the race in Central Market style.”
In 2008 nearly 5,000 walkers, joggers and runners participated in the Dash Down Greenville which serves as the launching pad for Dallas’ St Patrick’s Day Celebration and world famous Greenville Avenue Parade. The proceeds from last year’s race resulted in a donation of over $45,000 to the North Texas Food Bank which will again serve as the benefactor of the race.
“Dash Down Greenville is a great opportunity to help yourself while benefiting others. Training to walk or run the 5K event will help you get in shape while literally putting food on the table for those in need. As a participant last year, I can say it was a lot of fun. As the CEO of the Food Bank, I can tell you that 225,000 meals were provided for those in need. This is a great way to help CLOSE THE GAP on hunger in North Texas,” added Jan Pruitt, President and CEO, North Texas Food Bank.
Registration for the race is $20 through March 4th. After that date, registration increases to $25 through March 14th and $30 on race day (Saturday, March 15th). Participants can register on line at www.dashdowngreenville.com or in person at any Run On! location. Packet pickup will be from March 11th through March 13h at all Run On! locations.
In addition to the move the Dash Down Greenville was also named the Best 5K in Texas by readers of Competitor Texas Magazine. In 2007 the race received an Honorable Mention in the Best 5K category. The annual awards were announced in Competitor’s January issue.
