Crossroads Community Service Recognized as Member Agency of the Year
North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is proud to announce Crossroads Community Service (CCS), an urban outreach of First United Methodist Church Dallas, was named 2010 Member Agency of the Year.
The decision was revealed at the 10th annual Member Agency Conference (MAC), a day-long gathering and celebration for the Food Bank’s 300-plus Member Agencies.
Selection for this award is based upon merit. Along with completing an essay describing how their agency is Closing the Gap on hunger, an agency must receive high marks for building capacity, participation in NTFB’s Agency University’s program, and ability to provide a high level of food per individuals in their community.
In the end, CCS’s model for serving their clients, based on the USDA food pyramid, set them apart. CCS teaches clients how to select the appropriate mix and proportion of grocery items from grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, mea, and beans to prepare 30 nutrient- and calorie-balanced meals according to their age, gender and activity level. On average, individuals received 33 pounds of groceries per visit.
Along with the honor, Crossroads also receives a $2,500 grant; a luncheon hosted for their board members, staff and volunteers; a congratulatory mention on NTFB’s website and e-zine newsletter; and two tickets to NTFB’s signature events Taste of the NFL and Empty Bowls.
“We are so proud of Executive Director Jay Cole and his hard-working team at Crossroads,” said Jan Pruitt, President and CEO of NTFB. “We collectively agreed that this year Crossroads proved themselves incredibly worthy to receive this prestigious award.”
