Oprah’s Big Give: Operation North Texas
March 10-April 20, 2008
The North Texas community went “nuts” for Oprah’s Big Give: Operation North Texas. This month-long campaign encouraged several corporations, schools, faith-based groups and individuals to “give big” by collecting food and funds for fill backpacks for our Food 4 Kids program.
The Food 4 Kids program provides nutritious nonperishable food that does not require utensils to open or heating to elementary school children most at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Kid-friendly food items are provided to the child in a plain backpack every Friday afternoon during the school year (several measures are taken to protect the child’s privacy amongst his peers) and brought back empty every Monday morning. Currently serving over 150 schools in 14 school districts, Food 4 Kids provides food to approximately 3,000 children in the greater Dallas area.
Oprah’s Big Give: Operation North Texas generated:
• $120,000 (will purchase 24,000 weekly packs of food)
• Over 60,000 jars of peanut butter
THANK YOU to all our participants, including our financial donors:

Savor Dallas Supports The North Texas Food Bank with Special Ticket Offer
Savor Dallas, an International Experience of Wine, Food, Spirits and the Arts, will donate a portion of ticket sales from the March 7-8 event purchased by friends and supporters of the North Texas Food Bank. The region's premier wine and food event announced the campaign for the holiday season.
The special program, which is debuting this year, allows friends and supporters of the North Texas Food Bank who are purchasing 10 or more of tickets to the weekend spectacular to designate the NTFB as the beneficiary of the ticket purchase. Savor Dallas will give back 15 percent of the total purchase to the Food Bank.
Companies can take advantage of this special offer and benefit the North Texas Food Bank by calling 1-866-277-7920 or e-mailing info@SavorDallas.com and referencing the North Texas Food Bank in their purchase.
“We are pleased to offer this gift back to the community and help the North Texas Food Bank, the organization that is doing so much for hunger relief in our community,” said Jim White, Savor Dallas co-founder. “In addition to this new outreach, we will continue to support our worthy causes: the North Texas Food Bank, the Arts Magnet Building Campaign for Booker T. Washington High School, and the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association Culinary Scholarship program through a donation from our overall ticket sales and with the new Savor Dallas cookbook.”
Savor Dallas will publish a cookbook in 2008, featuring North Texas chefs’ favorite "at home" recipes. Retailing for $14.95, all profits from the cookbook sales will be used to fund culinary scholarships administered by the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association. Savor Dallas has generously contributed to the causes of fighting hunger, training aspiring young chefs and supporting the arts since its founding in 2004.
Savor Dallas 2007 was attended by more than 4,000 people from Dallas/Fort Worth, throughout Texas and 14 other states across the country.
